Developmental Editing

Editorial Assessment (.01/per word)

A big picture look at major craft elements, including structure, plot, POV, character arc, stakes, voice, and where it fits in the market. Includes 4–5-page editorial letter about revisions that may elevate your manuscript and a 30-minute call to discuss notes. This does not include copyedit, proofread, or in-line comments.

(*) If you’d like to transition the assessment into developmental editing, the cost will be deducted from the initial developmental editing pricing.

Line Editing (.03/per word)

This differs from proofreading. Line editing focuses on stylistic elements like clarity, flow, and sentence structure and variability. This may also include repeated grammar and punctuation mistakes, but the focus is on the mechanics of clearer, more concise writing. I offer various page counts for line editing. Patterns often quickly emerge in a writer’s style, so sometimes all you need is a sampling of pages for a targeted revision. Select from 4 different page count packages.

The Developmental Edit (.03/per word)

This is a deep dive into your full manuscript covering the most crucial elements of a successful story: structure, plot, POV, character arc, stakes, voice, and where it fits in the market. Includes 10–15-page editorial letter, in-line comments and questions, and a 45-minute follow-up call. Can be bundled with query review at a discount.

The Outline Evaluation ($100 flat fee)

I’ll evaluate your outline or beat sheet up to 2500 words. (We all like saving the cat!) I’ll provide feedback on structure, the ever-crucial stakes, plot beats, pacing, character arc, and thematic coherence. This evaluation also flags for expected manuscript length. Sometimes our planned stories are too big for one book. Add a 30-minute call for $40.

The “Partial” Review ($225 flat fee)

I’ll provide a fresh set of eyes on your first 50 pages and your synopsis, complete with 3–4-page notes. A story’s opening is the second hurdle it must clear in an agent’s inbox. (The query, of course, is the first.) This includes a 30-minute call.

If you’d like support while drafting and/or revising, I can provide feedback and a shoulder to cry on! Coaching is a close 1:1 relationship where I administer whatever help you need, as determined by our initial call. This could include brainstorming, outlining, line-editing, and craft discussion on character development, plot beats, structure, or scene-work.
